Hypnosis

What is it, Really?
There are many people whose only experience with hypnosis has been on stage or some sort of sideshow. Even though hypnosis is often associated with the strange and mysterious – the truth is, hypnosis is neither supernatural nor mysterious. In fact, the average person, over the course of their life, has been in some kind of hypnotic state thousands of times. When we do specific activities over and over again, such as mowing the lawn, doing the dishes, or driving, the information we need to do such tasks gets stored in our subconscious mind. Such activities are called automatic activities.

Most of us, at some time, have been driving down the road and, suddenly, we miss our turn or exit. This is because, if you’re an experienced driver, all of the information you need to drive is stored in your subconscious mind. That frees up your conscious mind and allows it to drift. This daydreaming state of mind is truly the first level of a mild trance state.

Hypnosis is simply a deliberately induced trance state. The client is guided by gentle imagery into a relaxed state, which is usually a bit deeper than a normal daydreaming state.
